Artist's Profile

Kate Mawdsley
Kate Mawdsley

I grew up in Lancashire in the north west of England. We lived near the coast and my father was a farmer, so I had a really rural upbringing with plenty of freedom and space to run around. I knew I wanted to do something in the arts as I was always creative. I studied fashion and textiles at Middlesex University. Having left the countryside to study in London I then stayed for 20 years, working in the fashion industry for the first few years and then becoming a freelance artist. My artwork changed from fashion and I began creating images for other products such as ceramics, kitchenware and greetings cards.

With the invention of the internet, it became less important to live in the city close to many of my customers, so I moved to Suffolk a few years ago. I now live with my husband Phil and cat Rudolph on the edge of a small village overlooking fields and countryside. I have a studio at home which is always untidy and chaotic, I work both traditionally with paint and paper and also using my Mac computer.

I am very lucky to have a career that I truly love. It’s always a thrill to see my artwork on new products. I’m very excited to be working with Flamingo who produce the most amazing and beautiful greetings cards.
